The Futility of the UBER and PICK ME drivers work to rule!

UBER the world’s largest Multi-national Taxi company that does not own any taxis, now valued around US$75B about the same as SL GNP itself, is now being given a run for their money by PICK ME, the Locally owned Company.

As a vehicle owner who wants to earn money driving, this is a superb opportunity, to SUPPLEMENT your income, and  many are very successful especially those who work hard at TIMES that others don’t, can make a lot of money. (their less competition and the beauty of differential pricing to suit supply and demand a form of perfect competition in action)

Don't forget we need to give high marks and KUDOS to PICK ME for having the ability to run with UBER and in some ways even beat them at their game and the product and services offered are constantly improving and diversifying for the benefit of the consumer, who otherwise is held hostage to a few taxi drivers, who rule the roost!

So demonstrating against the company that gave them this opportunity is FUTILE as no one owes anyone a living. They can withdraw their services, and the law of supply and demand will determine if either company can succeed. This effectively determines the commission payable to them.

Not everyone can be a successful UBER driver. Those who know English have a distinct advantage. Anyone who is successful is NOT going to strike, only those who have been fooled by those who are not successful are the ones who are in this fight with the employers.

There are going to many fights ahead and we have not seen the end of this, as many of the local self-employed, especially Three Wheeler Drivers, see their income threatened, especially when these apps come into regular use throughout the Island, which it has not as yet.

Of course there is a massive backlash by the other industry providers against these two APP TAXI COMPANIES, as they have eaten into their business big time. That is normal, but it is a sign of the times, as in the end it is offering the user, the consumer, the person who is using their services, A BETTER SERVICE.

Why? There are better regulations, they know who took them where, there are details on the routes the Taxi took them, we presume they undergo some kind of etiquette training and if found to commit any fraud or harassment could lose their rights to be drivers with them, so they have to be careful. Then customer satisfaction of the driver, enhances the earning capacity of the driver. These are fantastic benefits that today’s technology offers the user, who will gravitate to either of these and maybe new ones, depending on the REPUTATION they are able to develop and preserve.

So all I say to the drivers is either you get together and start your own APP based Taxi company in competition with them, or just SHUT UP! You cannot have your cake and eat it. You know the rules, you either live by them or do something else.

Remember again, NO ONE OWES YOU A LIVING!

TRUST ME MOST OF THE PEOPLE DEMONSTRATING ARE NOT UBER OR PICK ME DRIVERS THEY ARE THOSE WHO ARE JEALOUS OF THEIR SUCCESS. SO GOSL DON'T BE FOOLED BY FAKE NEWS

Another case where jealousy reigns supreme in Sri Lanka. If truth be told the hard working English Speaking drivers earn over Rs100K a month after paying for their car leases, repairs and their fuel. However they work long hours and they work the hours when supply is at its lowest and demand is greater, resulting in higher prices the consumer is prepared to pay.

Some people who are lazy don't like this, but it is now time for people in Sri Lanka to be rewarded for work, not for working for the Government and waste other people's time.

I know many intelligent well educated people who would have left Sri Lanka, but due to UBER have decided to remain in Sri Lanka and driver a taxi, as this is the first time hard work has been known to be rewarded in Sri Lanka.

For this we in Sri Lanka must be grateful to UBER for showing the way forward, and for PICK ME to take it to another level.

Why are success stories in Sri Lanka held to ransom? Because of a bunch of losers with Island mentality that has traction in the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Until we remove the losers in Parliament this Country cannot rise to the challenges

Any objections?

The link below is a good balanced read of what it takes to be an UBER driver from someone who actually did it, warts and all so those who don't understand the ins and outs can learn and make up their minds on its efficacy in the Sri Lankan context.

Don't forget the 25% goes back to their owners after deducting the local expenses on a number of things, and it is possible that at present nothing is sent back till the business builds critical mass. In any case that is how foreign investment in all its forms works, in this case the actual investment is zero, as it is an idea, but the rewards accrue to the owner! Think about that for a moment in looking at the big picture.

This means we in Sri Lanka must support Pick Me to be successful, and Pick Me on the other hand must give us some guarantee that by being successful they will not sell out to a foreign company UBER or anyone else for Billions of Dollars that don't come back to Sri Lanka and instead being stuffed in foreign bank accounts. All good stuff

The time has come for all the people to understand that in asserting their rights, they are merely trying to protect their interests and prevent someone else go ahead. Simply put they feel threatened by the competition, lest their personal space to make good money or obscene money is threatened.

Politics or tariffs, or oligopolists or train drivers or private bus operators, or doctors in the GMOA are all part of these groups in addition to the Tuk Tuk drivers.

When protecting these groups the group that is most badly affected is the Consumer, as all these groups are trying to fleece the consumer.

The job of the state must ONLY be to give the consumer the best deal possible for them to make the best choice for themselves, without someone screwing them over.

Unfortunately the Government of Sri Lanka instead of doing its job of protecting the public has taken on a selfish role of protecting their privilege as well as the privilege of all the mafias of the Country. These mafias pay protection money to the politicians and so the consumer is being cheated.

It seems obvious to say it but the people of Sri Lanka must wrest back control from all the mafias of the day, including that in Diyawanna Oya, as they are all working against the interests of the people and for the interests of the groups who pay the most for that protection.
